Thailand sets general election for February 2026
Candidate registrations for individual parliamentary seats will be accepted from Dec. 27 to Dec. 31, while party-list candidates and prime ministerial candidate lists can register from Dec. 28 to Dec. 31, according to reports.
The announcement follows the dissolution of parliament on Friday by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, acting on a formal request from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The royal decree was issued after Anutin requested fresh elections within a 45-to-60-day window.
Thailand’s current parliament was formed following the general election held in May 2023. The decision to hold snap elections comes amid ongoing border clashes with Cambodia that have resulted in multiple fatalities over recent months.
